Glen Nevis, Scotland

Scotland’s breath-taking West Coast and Highlands are home to Cailleach Bheur, also known as Beira, Queen of Winter. From her throne on top of Ben Nevis to her whirlpool cauldron in the Gulf of Corryvreckan – Beira has long reigned over these lands, creating the lochs and mountains that define the region. Every winter, she transforms the landscape with snow and ice, sometimes even freezing the magnificent An Steall Bàn, the UK’s second-highest waterfall. To reach its base, start at the very end of Glen Nevis road, seven miles south-east of Fort William, then follow the path east through scenic woodland and beautiful meadow, taking care as you climb and observe the awe-inspiring views.
